"Dear Planet: Fuck You", Capitalism

The Headlines are Abuzz!…Again

A recent report put out by the United Nations examining the current climatic conditions and capitalism’s response to it is all over the media. It continues on to the painting of a dire picture for humanity. It should be noted that it is not the only of such reports. The US makes its own called the Climate Assessment Report that is part of the Global Change Research Act of 1990, which delivers a report to Congress and the President “no less than every four years” .

So, every few years, at the highest political body of world imperialism (as well as in the most advanced imperialist nation on the planet), teams of bourgeois economists, scientists, and others analyze the current global situation including trends in responses to changing climate. Given the nature of capitalism, as we can imagine, things have only gotten worse.

In a vain attempt to address the consequences of capitalist extraction and imperialist plunder of the planet that led up to this scenario, world politicians have superficially united to “keep a global average temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.” According to the UN report: “While climate action has accelerated since Paris, it still falls far short of an unprecedented transformation needed to limit impacts of climate change. Already at record highs, GHG emissions are set to keep rising in the coming decade on” and that the secretary-general of the UN is “ urging countries to halt subsidies for fossil fuels, to build no coal-fired power plants after 2020, and to put a price on carbon emissions.”

The Reality: Capitalists are Split into Fractions

The opportunism of the different fractions of capitalists expose themselves as they cannot actually offer an alternative to the current crisis. Any attempts of reforming the disease of capitalism at this stage are completely out of step with history and the current political period of fascist consolidation. For example, as one fraction of capital urges subsidy cuts on fossil fuels, capitalism in the imperialist countries is stepping up its extraction processes including offshore drilling, and oil and gas exploration .

The deepening crisis of world capitalism/imperialism is also creating a widening wedge between the different fractions of capital and their political representatives. Bourgeois politics is a semi-autonomous political field of struggle in the capitalist dictatorship. So, all capitalists are fundamentally tied into the economy but they do somewhat of their own thing based on how they accumulate their capital. In the current structural crisis, these fractions cannot come to unity on how to move forward as the economic reality is outpacing them. So, they are currently lurching towards an increasing consolidation of fascism under the leadership of a faction the bureaucratic bourgeoisie .

Their inter-class struggle including the impeachment hearings, the contradictory maneuverings between the UN resolutions/proclamations and actual economic and political practice, is showing us their complete incapacity to lead society to a progressive future. The fascist consolidation is proceeding in its process to restructure bourgeois democracy to make brutal accumulation easier by curtailing more and more rights, privatizing social services , and cutting benefits.

Capitalism will Kill us Before it Kills itself

Capitalism as a structural arrangement of society has shown us time and time again that it will only act in a way to reproduce itself by accumulating capital at all costs. There is no human element in a market. There are no morals, there are no back bones to be expected of the bourgeoisie. The capitalist class will NEVER challenge their own position as rulers and they will destroy the planet before they willingly make a fundamental change towards any transformation that will benefit humanity as a whole.

There is no bargaining with such an enemy. There are no green deals that will change the social relations. Capitalism is a world phenomenon built off the exploitation of labor and it is more important than ever that this process gets a push back from an organized and autonomous social force of the exploited and dominated who can fight for the collective future of humanity! We are not hopeless, we just need to change our perspective and place our hope in ourselves. So get in touch, let’s build that movement that is dying to be born!

Stay tuned as we further explore populism and opportunism …
